Hello again.

Do anyone of you know where to find a schematic diagram of a geothermal powerplant?? Its a project in our thermodynamics class.

Just give my websites, books or any form of sources i could use. Thanks.

I hope you respond.

klaypeene:

Why are some students so lazy? All you have to do is use the monster search machine, Google, and you will find that you can go to:

http://www.eere.energy.gov/geothermal/geop...owerplants.html

and there you will find the two basic systems used at the U.S. geothermal sites in Northern California. Sure, the schematic is a "Mickey Mouse" diagram - but so is the thermodynamic process to extract electrical energy from a natural, underground steam source - relatively speaking. This is really basic thermodynamics -- but very important to thoroughly dominate and understand on the part of a Chem E student.

The basics are just that: very, very thermodynamic basics. Keep rocks, boulders, sand, debris and other undesirables out of the steam turbines. Isentropically expand through the turbines down to condensing level or keep a back pressure and condense outside the turbine. You may have to pump (re-inject) the produced condensate back to the magma layer to effect a total power recycle.

You even get a detailed tabular inventory of what turbines and other equipment are being used and their rated MW capacity. What else do you need? If you are a thermodynamic student at the present time, you have gotten more information than any other thermo student got a generation ago. I am not reprimanding you; I'm stressing the point that the information is so available and it is there for your immediate use and exploitation. I hope you use 100% of it and that it helps explain and educate you in the fine style of thermodynamics science.

Here are 3 websites with diagrams of geothermal power plants ... and they took me about 2-3 minutes to find using the Google search engine. I am in total agreement with Art Montemayor's comments. In fact, I am beginning to think that university engineering curriculums should include a course in the use of Internet search engines.
