Hello... I am looking for information about how a Methanator works and the control estrategies that it uses. The process I am interested in is a Methanator that converts Hydrogen, CO and CO2 into Methane and water, for feeding a knockout pot (for separating gas and water).
I need to find out how the process works in order to select the approriate interloks that maintain the process under safety conditions.
I have been looking for information in Internet, but seems not to be available. Perhaps somebody knows some websites with this info.
Thanks in advance

Methanation is a highly exothermic reaction. Temp.rise for converting 1%(mole) CO in feed is about 75°C and for1% CO2 is abut 60°C. ie about 165°C er mole% of O2 converted. It is usually employed to purify hydrogen produce by steam reformation after Shift convertor. So inlet concentration of CO & CO2 is very important. Typilacl operating temperature is about 300°C. Process control is very complicated due high exothermic reaction.
There will be temperature measurement along the bed length at various locations atleast every 12"
There will be pressure control by a control valve at the feed and a relief valve at vessel top.
Also shutoff valve at the feed incase the mperature in the bed rise at a rapid rate.
I suggest contact you contact the web site of Catalyst manufaturers such as Haldor Tapsoe, Synetix and SudChemie or others.
Also try to visit a NH3 plant if you can.
