Is the fluid density/specific gravity information necessary for the relief valve vendor to select the right relief valve?

CDN,

Open the API 520 Pt 1, there are general equation for sizing PSV. You will find inputs required.

@CDN:

I'll go one further than Joe. In API RP520 Part 1 there is a PSV specification sheet. Although you won't need to fill in everything, as some things are filled in by the vendor, you will need to fill in most of the service conditions, and this includes the fluid properties.

Perhaps you will provide more information on what you are trying to accomplish. What is your experience level in dealing with PSV sizing and specification?

Thanks very much Phil. I have done less of PSV calculations. The vendor did not come back asking for density/specific gravity. The flow is in mass units. That could be the reason for not requiring density. I shall however go through API RP 520.
