A pump is designed for pumping fluid with sp gr 0.6 at pumping temp.

Can the design characteristic curves of this pump be referred to check adequacy of this pump for pumping fluid of a different sp gravity (say 0.8 at pumping temperature)?

KINGMOON,

If you are looking for the flow versus head curve (Q-H curve), this will remain unchanged for any change in specific gravity. Change in specific gravity or in other words the density of the liquid will change the absorbed power of the pump driver.

Refer to a recent post on the same subject::

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Ankur.

pump curves give you head in terms of ft , meter etc

you have to convert that to pressure by using P=specific gravity X g X h

so you basically use specific gravity to determine discharge pressure for your own fluid
pump curve itself is independent of specific gravity and is usually developed with water as standard fluid
