can anyone explain me what are the factors that decides the final selection of trays?valve type or bubble caps?In which circumstances we will install valve type or bubble caps?

Also is the location of PSV influence tower pressure?we have a contactor tower containing valve type trays and its PSV is installed at bottom of tower (just above the bottom tray) and in another absorber containing bubble caps the PSV is mounted on the tower top...please explain

Vista,

As per me generally bubble cap tray to be provided where we are withdraw liquid from the column.

Refer GPSA section 19 fractionation & Absorption for more details.

The tray type selection is always performed taking into account several factors that you're not specifying, including the type of fluid being handled, the type of separation, the material balance in each tray. Reviewing the GPSA chapter recommended by jrtailor09 is a good start.

About the PSV location, its weird to have the PSV on the bottom, since the overpressure is always expected in the top (where more gas is present).
