I need some references about radiation calculation considering a horizontal flare that is buried.

Is right assume that the flare radiation is totally absorbed by the earth wall? how can I estimate the diameter of the flame in order to determine the pit depth?

Thanks in advance!

Google burn pit or some such thing.

How much gas is this flare to burn?

How can a flare be buried?  Maybe the flare header can be buried for a ground flare but not the flare itself.

Can u please elaborate little more ?

You can use Flare tot software for radiation calculation.  I have used this & result is very good & matching with Flaresim output.

Jatin

Hi,

The flare header is discharging horizontally in a pit, the idea is that the walls helps in reducing radiation at ground level.

What I'm trying to do, is estimate the radiation at ground level, considering the discharging gas in being burn in an open pit below ground level.

Has anyone seen a similar calculation ? or can I assume that the walls are enough to avoid radiation at ground level?

(I have used flaretot but I'm not sure it takes in consideration the walls of the pit in the calculation)

take a look at using FlareSim , this software handles burnpits

Hi,

What would be the allowable velocity in feeding pipe for burn pit? This feed line have to design for both liquid and gas flow.

I need some references about radiation calculation considering a horizontal flare.

I am also searching and waiting for this type of document. A document of flareman discussed on this topic but seems not enough to calculate radiation level to any exposure at a certain distance. API 521 discusses this calculation for vertical flare stack sizing but not for horizontal flares. But the idea for horizontal (ground) flares can be developed from API 521.

Without flraesim and flarenet, is there any references to calculate manually this radiation level for horizontal flares or burn pit?
