Greetings,
I am working on my final year project regarding the " ENERGY REDUCTION OF THE DISTILLATION COLUMN OF THE TOPPING REFINERY " .
Can any one one suggest what are the fundamentals in reducing the energy losses and optimizing of  topping refinery and in which directions i should proceed my project.

hope for the earliest reply.

Hi,

Unless you come up with system details and the numbers (duty, temperature, flow) I am sure nobody can guide you.

The most prevalent fundamental of reduction in energy consumption in any refinery is process heat integration.

What it means is, you take the hot product streams that are leaving the process unit and give their heat to the cold feed streams that entering the unit.

Search literature on "Pinch analysis - process heat integration". Lots of it is available on the net.

Read it, then you can ask specific questions.

Can we have plates in the preflash column and secondly and can we have a reboiler with preflash column as it will minimize the heat duty of furnace and eventually the energy and load on CDU will be decreased.
