Will there be any effect on reflux when we use vacuum distillation? (P=40 torr)

Since the relative volatility changes with change in column operating pressure, for unchanged column configuration (for same no of trays/ same packed bed height) reflux will change.

Hi,

For a given or existing system with intended separation reflux will be a constant value; however as others mentioned the effect of pressure on system i.e. improvement in relative volatility with reduction in pressure will need lower reflux rate (subject to available margins in column hydraulic capacity as lower pressure will increase vapor volume rates and may lead to hydraulic issues).
