Good day,

I am working on a drain system and I would like to ask for an opiníon from more experienced engineers.

In the Hazardous Drain System Seal Pots are used to segregate different fire zone preventing vapour migration by means of a liquid seal. The Seal Pot may be vented or not. From my point of view the lack of a venting may cause a siphon effect (not sure how likely and to what extent as it is quite difficult to simulate) but on the other side if a vent is provided its location should be properly assessed to ensure that the vent itself doesn't connect segregated areas. What is your experience/suggesiton?

thanks

Regards

Michele,

Refer the attachment in the link below for a schematic of Seal-Pot and a U-shaped siphon used for offshore oil & gas installations. Note that the seal pot shown in the attachment has a vent with a flame arrester.

Hope this helps.

Ankur.
