Hi Guys,

I have a question.

What is the difference between PRV's and PSV's?. Why they used next to each other if they are used for same function?

Can anyone provide me with the spreadsheet to size PRV'S and PSV'S.

Hey,

Don't get confused. Both are totally different.

PSV (pressure safety valve) is used for ultimate safety of your system in the event of overpressure due to any abnormality.

PRV (pressure reducing/regulating valve) is used to regulate the pressure of the downstream at its set point during normal operation. You can treat this as one sort of control valve for understanding which is basically operating based on manual set point. PRV cannot be used for the safety as per its mechanism as it can be treat as reliable device due to operating principle behind the mechanism.

Whereas, PSVs are well proven reliable device as its operation is purely based on mechanical principle of movement of spring.

You may refer any instrumentation and control book or search on Google to understand the principle behind PRV in detail.

Rgrds,

Aroon
