Dear All,

Do you have any experience with designing spillage pit for slug catcher at inlet facilities of a gas refinery?

I found only in TOTAL guideline GS EP SAF 228 following sentence:

"Finger-type slug catchers shall be provided with a paved area underneath their liquid  bottle sections. This paved area shall slope to an impounding basin whose capacity  shall accommodate the maximum liquid volume of the slug catcher, and which is not located underneath the slug catcher"

As you know, it is a company guideline and we could not relay completely. Is there any standard?

hamidk,

To my knowledge there are no API / ISO standards related to slug catchers. You will have to rely on some company standard. TOTAL is a respected name and if they have provided guidelines for spill / drain collection of slug catchers, those can be used for the sake of designing a system.

In fact a gas-liquid separator can be used in lieu of a finger-slug catcher for collecting slugs. So the guidelines for a separator drain can also be applied to a finger-type slug catcher with certain specific system-oriented changes.

Regards,

Ankur.
