hello Sir,
i am working in hydrofluoric Acid plant.here they are used Rectification Column for increase purity of HF on 2.42kg/cm2 pressure and 58 C temp. condition.i want to know that how to decide this temp & pressure.

Column pressure is decided based on cooling media used in overhead condenser and column temperature based on required purity required in overhead stream (cut temperature).

In the VLE operation, when the operating pressure is fixed, the column temperature is almost fixed too. Based on column pressure drop determined by liquid and vapor load, the temperature profile may change slightly.
The optimum operating pressure is determined by experiment or preference to maximize the relative volatility.

Thank you.....!!!
they can't get product from up stream from condenser. they get from re boiler. how's thats possible HF is light key component.SO2,H2SO4,H2SIF6,AS etc....?? there is no product draw from over head condenser.

What is your tower temperature profile? Your tower may be flooding. If you have a light component at the top of the tower, the VLE may be true to predict that HF has a high boiling point because of the hydrogen bond?

tower operated at 2.42 kg/cm2 bottom pressure and 58 c temp. at top temp is 45 c and pressure is 2.41 kg/cm2.hf boiling point is 19 c at atm. so except all component hf boiling point is to much lower so hf is light key component...m i right..?? at top only gases are escape. in condenser cooling water is used.

I don't have the VLE data for your system. You can do a troubleshooting for your system by looking at the followings:
1. Your feed conditions: Temperature, pressure, location and composition
2. How is your temperature profile achieved? by reflux? What is your reflux composition and flow rate?
3. You said that HF was withdraw from reboiler. What is your withdraw temperature, composition, gas or liquid?
Thanks

Ohky Sir. Thanks for reply..
Temp is achieved by heating through Steam.but there is no reflux flowrate means which ever quantiy of HF is condensed all this used as reflux.so how can i mesure reflx flow rate ..??and they said HF phase is vapour+liq at 58 c . and sir i want ro know that how to find how much liquid and vapor are present at specific temp and pressure.??
