Recently Ethylene dryer bed containing mol sieves got fully choked, taken out of service and isolated. While doing N2 purging to remove hydrocarbons entrapped, there is no flow of N2 through the bed. What are the alternate methods to make the bed hydrocarbon free?

You can try to pressure/depressure.

There is only one way to make your dryer beds active again: change out all the contaminated adsorbent - whether it be mol sieves, silica gel, or activated alumina - and charge the vessels with fresh adsorbent.

I don't know of any plant-based re-activation process to regenerate poisoned or plugged adsorbent - nor have I heard of any.

Dear Art/Bobby, for bed replacement we have to make it hydrocarbon free then only we can open the dryer. As bed seems to be completely chocked we are not able to purge with N2.

Ask your supplier if you can flood the bed with water or methanol. That should do the trick.

Ethylene drier got choked because of lumps formation or molecular sieve getting powdered. Only option is change the molecular sieve and go to root cause analysis otherwise next time also similar phenomenon take place.
