Respected Engineers

If you see the picture below you can see gas in coming from wellhead with some Natural Gas condensate and water.

Inlet Plant flow rate (Specified by client)

100 MMSCFD

Oil 80 BPD

Water 100 BPD

So noe intial two phase separator will be sized keeping in mind about the flow rate specified by client with some extra margin. But for thee phase separator downstream of the two phase separator inlet liquid flow rate is not defined by the plant inlet flow rate (50 BPD oil & 100 BPD Water) As far as i know it will be defined but pipe size and pressure drop in the pipe. Like in some situation we use on/off level control valve in initial two phase separator. Like it will open at high level and close at low leave. So the inlet  flow rate of the three phase separator in different So will be the retention time  & surge volume of the separator.

Can you please share your views? How can I calculate the inlet flow rate of three phase separator?

Regards

How about using HYSYS?

Input the composition on feed stream. and input operating temperature and pressure on vessel.

Then you can get the top outlet flowrate and bottom outlet flowrate.

Dear bangzone Thank you For the Answer.

But are you referring to HYSYS steady state simulation? If the feed contains 180 MPD of oil & water then the outlet in the HYSYS will be 180 BPD oil & water (or very much close to it). My point is the data 180 Barrel i am putting is fro client who has measured it at the wellhead but in three phase separator the flow rate will be different at some times. Like we have a two inch line with a level control valve and pressure is being reduced fro 1000 psig to 90 psig. Now if we design there phase separator for 180 barrel flow of oil & water then will the separator perform as desired?

Dear processengbd,

You have control valve Cv (on-off valve) and you have delta Pressure, so you can calculate maximum flowrate (@ max deltaP) from 2 phase sep to 3 phase sep.

The statistic head can be added to have more accurate result.
