Hello Everyone,

I am trying to simulate Temperature Swing Adsorption of CO2 capture on solid adsorbents using Aspen Adsorption.

I am starting off with a very basic setup that includes a:

(i) Feed (non-reversible) with all specified inputs fixed

(ii) Gas Bed (vertical, 1-D)

(iii) Product (non-reversible) with free flow rate and pressure

The issue is that, when I run the simulation in dynamic mode, it gives me an error stating that the Initialization failed at time 0.

I am unsure so as to why this is happening. Help would be greatly appreciated.

hi saban

i've never done the simulation on your unit, but your error may be come from improperly defining the boundary spec.

i also doubt what you are looking for from the dynamic simulation. Please ensure your simulation exactly needs the dynamic point of view. If you can tell more about your objective, other may give you more help.

Thanks AlertO for your reply!

I am feeding a CO2,N2 mixture and trying to selectively adsorb CO2 in the bed at this stage. I later want to design a 2-bed TSA cycle.

I intend to compare the experimental results for the adsorbate with the results generated using ASPEN Adsorption.

i'm  not strong in TSA, but it sounds dynamic simulation will not able to give you what you require because your process is continuous and in steady state. Moreover, you should have some reference that using ASPEN Adsorption is the proven method for bed design.

good luck.
