Hello Everybody,

I am trying to design a double tube heat exchanger in HTRI,  i am confused between choosing Hairpin type or jacketed pipe heat exchanger for my case.

what is the diffence between the both ?,

i did my calculations with both cases and results are not identical,

Thanks for the support,

Best regards,

Miguel

Hi,

Both options are typically opted for smaller size or area exchangers. Jacketed pipe is the right option for double pipe heat exchanger whereas Hairpin is a multi-tube exchanger. Typical heat transfer area range is <50 m2 for both exchangers.

One advice before you make final choice among these two, check the possible vendors in your region. Double pipe are easier to fabricate and even possible at your company engineering workshop where as for Hair pin designs you need specific vendors.

We really can't comment on your doubt of difference in results unless you elaborate the exact difference with evaluated options/configurations.
