Dear colleagues,

I am a young chemical enginner working on atmospheric control systems. Nowadays I am working for the design of a scrubber for an industrial plantl. I almost finished the internal dimensions but, unfortunately,  I have a big doubt: The distance inlet duct to the bottom of the structural packing media to avoid turbulances achieving a good distribution of the air along the surface of the media. The packed scrubber is vertical, the air inlet comes in 90º at the bottom of the vessel, and the liquid flows at the top of the vessel,so, we have countercurrent gas-liquid streams.

I know some tools to resolve the problem such as CFD simulations, but I would like to know if you consider any rule of thumb for this trouble, fixing a distance according to the inlet diameter or something like that.

I would appreciate your assistance. Thanks,
