HI All,

i am working on my project of simulating alkali biodiesel production process on hysys v8. At the beginning of project i.e. when i was adding components i got problem in creating hypothetical components.

1. I could not change the family/class of my hypothetical component from hydrocarbon to inorganic (NaOH*).

2. secondly i know that while creating hypothetical component you have to provide at least molecular weight, normal boiling point and ideal liquid density but the problem is that i don't know where to find the these properties.
------------------------
3. please tell me what are binary coefficients? and how do you estimate them in hysys---plz suggest any book if you couldn't explain it here

guys i know these questions are related to very basics of hysys but the problem is that I ain't a chemical engineer, am mechanical (major)-plz suggest some books for knowing fundamentals of chemical engineering by some good author.

regards

engr_amir,

I am not familiar with Hysis, I use Aspen Plus.

But the theory should apply to both softwares.

What is an NaOH*? What does the star sign mean?

NaOH can be inputted as conventional component in Aspen Plus, I believe it is also included already in the databank of Hysis.

Hypothetical component sounds like the equivalent of pseudocomponent in Aspen Plus.

I don't see the reason why you are trying to create a hypothetical component for NaOH.

I suspect that you want to treat the NaOH as electrolyte.

This link could be helpful:

Explaining binary coefficients to a non-chemical engineer can be difficult.

Try these links:

By the way, the correct nomenclature is binary interaction parameters.

Good luck.

thanks for your response xavio. I will be using NaOH as a solid catalyst in designing a simulation of biodiesel production process. so i created a hypothetical component with given conditions. but the problematic part is that whenever i create hypothetical compound its HYDROCARBON by default even though i have inorganic compounds like NaOH.

somebody plz get me rid of this problem.....

Dear Friends

I am seeking your kind help in directing me where to obtain examples  of various processes  carried out using   Hysys   that I can use to teach my students.

many thanks
