dear,

What could be the reason, if the temperatures of trays below the diesel tray is reduced. and all other parameters of column is almost same making  Diesel Quality slightly heavy.

In my Crude distillation column, there are 51 trays, feed tray is 6. diesel withdraw tray s 13. and tray 8 and tray12 temperature is reduced sharply one night. after facing this problem, I have emptied out diesel trays thrice in order to remove flooding if that may be the reason. During emptying out temperature becomes normal but after normallizing column that tray 8 and tray12 temperature resetted to about 10 deg less than normal temperature.

if any further information is needed plz ask.

To understand and solve the problem would require a lot of data, such as:

- PFD of crude unit, with (original or debottlenecked) design heat and mass balance

- P&ID of heater, crude column and sidestrippers

- drawing of column and sidestrippers, showing trays and other internals

- DCS data (temperatures, pressures and flowrates) of heater, crude column and sidestrippers, of normal operation, as well as operation when problem occurs

- ASTM D86 of diesel, and product drawn above diesel (heavy kero?), during normal operation, as well as when problem occurs

And that is only for starters.

It is almost impossible to troubleshoot a crude columns operation via a forum.

One really needs to be in the control room, talk to the operators, see on DCS screens the effect of adjusting operation parameters, and go outside to see the columns and associated piping layout, to solve any operating problem.

Hey !

I absolutely agree with Ping pong for the information required but could not resist asking you about any upset in  Gas oil Pump around or any pump-around lower than gas oil zone !

Regards

Himanshu
