Hi..

Is there any reference for flow rate calculation/N2 consumption rate for N2 purging of pipe lines? Please share?

Problem statement:

We got 400 ft of 2.5" size SS316L product line.

Elevation: 40 ft.

Product properties in the line: 0.97 specific gr.

viscosity: 90 cP

I need to size Liquid nitrogen tank size based on N2 consumption for line purging.

Purging will be takes place weekly 8 to 10 times.

Any one guide me, what is minimum N2 flow rate needed , recommended time for purging and N2 pressure needed??

Thanks,

Santosh

Santosh:

You can't expect a specific answer to this type of query.  Your application is totally dependent on the STATE of your resident fluid (you fail to state whether it is liquid, gas, or solid, slurry, etc.) and the configuration of the piping.  We also don't know the final residual quantity levels of the product that you will accept.

Purging is a process that is almost always dependent on empirical field data.  It is not possible to "calculate" a credible value for the required amount and flow rate of purging gas required.  You have to apply the nitrogen purge, make the required field measurements of the final results with time as a variable.  The method(s) used in applying the purging fluid will also make a difference in the results.

hi ,

My guess is that you are dealing with Latex ! You may consider to use a pigging system to clear your line .

If so Try Google or the search engine in this forum .
