Hi All,

Hope someone is able to help me figure out below problem:

A vessel is to be purged with Nitrogen using the 'Pressurization Purging' method.

The nitrogen line that feeds the vessel will have an orifice to limit the nitrogen flow to 30 m3/h.

The vessel must be pressurized up to 300 kPa, and eventually the N2 will be exhausted.

The volume of the vessel is 24 m3.

I would like to calculate:

1. The total volume of nitrogen required to pressurize the vessel to 300 kPa.

2. How long it would take to pressurize the vessel to 300 kPa given the nitrogen flow is limited to 30 m3/h?

I hope someone can help me out!

Appreciate any help!

Feel free to ask questions if the problem is not clear enough!

Thank you!

its so simple dear first calculate density of supplied GN2 at supply pressure i.e 300kpa and temperature(let say @ 303k). multiply this density to volume of vessle to know the mass required of GN2, divide this mass required to your supply flow rate you will get the time
t = density of GN2 @300kpa(kg/m3)* vol of vessle(m3)/supply fow rate(m3/hr)
this time will be in hours appropriatly you can converts this time in required unis

Attached spread sheet developed based on article posted  by 'Breizh'  may be useful. Some of the units need to be converted as required.
