Dear sir,

What is the standard for putting a side stream filter in cooling water system? What is the percentage of water to be filtered?

Thanks in advance.

Usually done in dirty applications or locations were dust storm occurs or there are lot of airborne particulates in the  surrounding area. Also use this if the make up water is unfiltered or if the client specifically requested for it. Its nominally 3% of cooling water pump capacity.  However use of chemical dispersant keeps the particulates suspended and prevent plugging heat exchangers.

Cem32,

There is no special standard for putting a side stream filter in an open cooling water circle. It would be considered in open cooling water circle to maintain the concenteration of suspended solids below desired value. The percentage of the circulating cooling water needs to be filtered is normally within 1-5%.
