Heat Loss From A Storage Tank

i need help about heat loss from a storage tank.
i want to calculate the steam consumption for a 2000 tons edible oil tank
in order to maintain desired temperature.
Although there are approximations and empirical methods,
they need so many variable and i still dont trust them too much.
Because heat transfer calculations are cumbersome and not reliable.
i have two methods that i am not sure if they are reliable:
These are,
1-Collecting the condensate all day
So this is my Real steam consumption (?)
2- Cut the steam , Let the tank cool for a while , Find the Temperature drop ,
then dQ=mc dt
Thats my heat loss and also my energy input
So Do you think it works?

Hi Levent01 ,
I will use the 1st approach for several days or weeks and will confirm doing basic calculation .Both methods are subject to variation ( season , wind , day /night) . Nothing is perfect .If you have a chance let you install a steam meter to ease your work .
What is the purpose of the work ? to improve insulation ,...
By the way you can buy an infrared thermometer or pyrometer to visualize the losses doing a mapping of the tank .
Hope this helps.

Thank you so much for your help.
My only purpose is curiosity so they will not let me buy equipments for my pleasures .
i know it depends on forced convection and weather. thats why i dont want to find heat transfer coefficient.
By the way Did you confirm the results with attached file?

Hi,
Yes , as an order of magnitude !
Attached an other resource to support your work.
Good Luck .
