Seems like you would like to break the fuel molecule apart into smaller molecules, but without yet combusting or burning the fuel?  This may take temperatures between very roughly 600-1200dC, and depends on fuel composition, pressure, and whether any catalysts are present to say help the cracking occur at a lower temperature.  This process may be prone to fouling with solid coke due to the high temperature.
