Dear all

In a recent accident in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, a liquefied propene pipe with length more than 20 km got a leakage point of 70 x 40 mm; the leaked gas traveled along a waste water duct and later ignited in the city, the accident took 30 lives and caused other damages.

According to logs, the companies who operated the pipe performed a 30-min soundness test after they discovered the sudden pressure drop from around 42 bar to around 13.5 bar (by closing the valves on both ends).

Since the gas evaporation from liquid to gas would compensate volume of gas leaked, 30 min was said to be far from enough for the 20 km pipe.

Therefore, I would like to seek your comments and advices on whether international standards for "Pressure Test of Liquefied Gas Pipes" are available?

Thanks a lot!

Regards

Jasper

Try Google. The USA probably has the most information in terms of safety. Include NGL in your search, too.
