Dear all,

As far as I know, a flare system usually includes flashback seal drum and flashback prevention section as in picture below:

However, the flare system in some gas processing plants I know does not include any flashback seal drum or flashback prevention section. It just includes K.O Drum and there is a "annular slot" in the flare stack. I wonder if it is safe and the "annular slot" could play the role as a flashback prevention section?

Hi,

 

Nowadays there are other facilities than seal drum for flashback prevention through the flare tip such as velocity seal along with a continuous purge gas system which can create a situation to do the job safely. Continuous purge gas system create a reliable positive pressure that its interruption may even lead to plant shut down...
