Dear all,
Could anyone tell me the problems could happen when the gas flow rate changes suddenly (by opening/ closing valves quickly)?. Does it relate to "hammer water" effect?

The problems are less severe for gas due to low densities and it's high compressibility; to the point that problems are really somewhat rare,  at least in my industrial experience.

In gas services rapid closing/opening of the valves may damage the valve itself's internals and affect the valve reliability rather than damaging the associated piping system by surge creation...
