I had a question concerning zone selection in hazardous area classification (ATEX):

in a plant, is it possible to have a a zone 0 directly covered by zone 2?

A better formulation here would be:  is a jump among zones is allowed?   that means for example having a zone 2 adjacent to zone 0?,   or a non-hazardous area directly adjacent to zone 1?

Thanks in advance

Yes , Zone reduction is possible in Hazardous Area classification  .  Zone 0 is basically Area inside the Reactor or Equipment having continuous  presence of Flammable Atmosphere , Zone 2 is the area surrounding the Zone  0 .  So the chances of Zone  0 surrounding Zone 2 is almost certain

Where as Zone1  is mostly on the Vent of Equipment handling the Explosible / flammable atmosphere  so there are chances that the Area covering the Zone 1 may or may not be adjacent to Non Hazardous Area .  So basically  the overlapping of Zones  depends upon the Equipment layout & Plant layout of the Chemical / Petrochemical / Refinery / Pharma plant  / storage Tank farm Area .
