Farnaz:

As is his usual experienced and helpful practice, Fallah has responded to your request with very useful and detailed information as regards a pig receiver/launcher – but only as regards the receiver/launcher being a pressure vessel.  I interject myself into this thread only because I identify your request as not being specific enough in communicating exactly what it is that you have been encharged to specify in a datasheet.  Normally, a pig receiver/launcher is never specified as merely a pressure vessel.  It is specified as an operating SYSTEM.  The pressure vessel specification is only one part of the total specification that is given to a supplier.  The reasons for this are the inherent hazards and dangers involved in operating a pig receiver/launcher.  An operating or engineering company almost never takes it upon itself to design the total operating system; it assigns and specifies this supply to an expert, experienced, and recognized responsible supplier that will ensure not only mechanical integrity in their design, but a safe and instrumented operating system that has performed in the field and demonstrated successful and safe operation with various operators in the field.  If you undertake to design and assemble the total operating unit, you legally accept the liabilities involved.  You/your company may not want to do this.

If, in fact, you are seeking a complete, packaged operating system that is guaranteed and proven by its supplier, then you need to attach to Fallah’s correct data sheet corresponding data and information regarding the method of operation that you require and the safe instrumentation (including specific types) that is required to operate the units.  Please refer to the attached documents that explain the complexities and the hazards in operating a pig receiver/launcher.  I hope this information can be of help to you.
