Hi,

We seek your valuable advice on selection of HP Flare Metallurgy and Queries are:

a) Requirement for NACE for Flare sub-header for the Gas Treatment Plant ?
B) What should be Metallurgy for the main flare header of the Project ?

Overall HP Flare distribution of our Gas Field Development Project is sketched in the attachment 1. Metallurgy selection of flare sub-header from Gas Processing Plant is responsibility of the supplier based on the functional requirement of 25 years design life and main flare header is in our scope. Gas plant supplier design considers Non-NACE CS sub-header. I feel, NACE compliance is mandatory since PSV reliefs from units upstream of H2S /CO2 removal section are SOUR in nature.

Outside the Gas Processing Plant, material selection for systems Equipment and piping up to PSV is done by us considering presence of 2 mol% H2S, 3 mol% CO2, 2 mol% H2O with high chloride content. Robust design includes high corrosion allowances, cladding / lining, high thickness valves. However, I feel, such higher metallurgy is only required up to PSV and main flare headers may be NACE complied CS or SS (depending upon minimum temperature during blowdown).

Relief and blowdown is very intermittent/rare, fluid velocities in the header are high (0.5-0.6 Mach), operating pressure is very low.

We don’t envisage to use 825 clad main flare HP Flare header in our scope unless it is absolutely required. Therefore, you expert opinion is requested. Let me know if any inputs are required from us.

Thank you.
