Hello All,

Please is there a best practice for where to  install a control valve on a cooling water loop? 

Can the control valve be at the inlet of the exchanger and the temperature sensor on the outlet?

Or do they both have to be on the outlet?

Take note that this paper talks about heating medium, not cooling water. If you throttle cooling water you risk fouling the exchanger. Unless you are using some closed loop system that is properly treated. And, perhaps, contains glycol.

Throttling the cooling water supply at user (here an exchanger) battery limit to adjust the cooling rate is a normal practice in all industries; to avoid fouling it's adequate the water would have proper quality and/or the outlet water temperature to be not so high...
