I'm looking to do a quick calculation to get an idea of the cooling required to maintain a set temeprature in a batch fermenter.

Any ideas how this is best done? I'm not sure how to adjust heat exchanger calculations (i.e. cool/heat from x to y temperature) to a maintain temperature x in the fermentor using a cooling jacket/ cooling coils.

Hi

To maintain temperature means you need to remove the heat generated by the fermentation process that you knew. to select the cooling facilities (jacket or coil), it depends the area you require (check required area by using the estmated U in attached file).

if the required A is more than the surface of the reactor, the cooling coil will be considered.
