Hi Guys,

I am currently trying to determine the quantity of steam required to dilute hydrogen that is emitted to atmosphere from a vent stack.

I did a mass balance and added steam until the hydrogen % in the mixture was less than 4% (LFL). However, this requires a ridiculously high quantity of steam.

Can someone advise if this is the right way to calculate the steam flow rate?

Thanks

You only need to assure that the stack exit point is sufficiently distant so that the flame radiation would not be harmful to people or equipment.

You only need steam to extinguish a small fire after venting has subsided.
