Hello everyone,

I am process engineer at refinery, i need to calculate tube metal temperature of conventional vacuum heater tubes of radiation section. Actually one Txi is showing probably erratic reading ( higher than other tubes) and i  want to calculate/verify the skin temperature reading.

I have consulted API 530 but couldn't solve the issue.

i would appreciate if you ppl can help me out.

Regards,

You would need special software (the same software as is used to design fired heaters) to estimate the tube metal temperature at a given point. But even then you would need to know the thickness of the layer of coke inside the tube at that specific point.

Conclusion: you will not be able to calculate the tube metal temperature at the location of that Txi.

The best you can try is to measure the tube metal temperature using a pyrometer (infrared thermometer) via a peephole.
