I am trying to design a shell and coil condenser, I have the process fluid on the shell side with cooling water in the tube.

Please can I get guidance on how to go about the design. I don't have the cooling water flow rate and cooling water outlet temperature.

Thanks.

My best advice on this subject is to first read, study, and then apply the information found in Donald Q. Kern's book, "Process Heat Transfer", McGraw-Hill; 1950, Chapter 20 - "Additional Applications"; page 720, Section 2. "Coils".

Kern discusses the methodology of designing a coil-type of heat exchanger - either helical or "pancake" type.
