This spreadsheet provides an easy and simple approach to (2/3 phase and vertical/horizontal) separator sizing. Formulae and references are also provided for process engineers to edit/duplicate this work (file is NOT password protected).

Two sets of calculations are carried out here.

1. Separators with Mist Extractors and

2. Separators without Mist Extractors

Ajay,

It can be somewhat confusing when the input is in deg API. Probably best to input density at operating conditions. Likewise, the guidelines for holdup don't specify what this is. And I am not sure myself. And, sizing production separators is not a chore left to inexperienced engineers. You might want to suggest what type and character of fluid might be appropriate for your sizing method. Now we have another group of separator sizing spreadsheets.  More important, is how to validate the spreadsheet for use. It's always risky to distribute spreadsheets that use spreadsheet formulas. Best to use VBA which is easier to check and maintain.

And there are curve-fit equations to calculate Cd directly.

Regards,

Bobby

Thank you Bobby for taking time to review my work. Much appreciated. :)

The spreadsheet prepared has used many references and I have tried my level best to keep it easy to use. I have checked its validity with the solved examples given in literature. Results were satisfactory, as all are using the same formulae.

I had resisted the urge to use VBA extensively and make it more fancy. Rather I preferred it to be more like a tutorial, where one learns how it is done.

Regards.
