Dear Engineers

Would you please tell me the differences between Mechanical Drive Turbine and Power Generator Turbine?

Is it possible to use one instead of another?

I've seen them in the below addresses:

A turbine is a turbine, which covert fuel gas chemical energy or steam heat energy to rotation energy.

If you use the turbine rotation energy to run compressor or pump to increase the fluid mechanical energy, the turbine will be categoried as mechanical drive turbine.

If you use the turbine rotation energy to run power generator to produce electric energy, the turbine will be categoried as power generator turbine.

Actually, Shan, you should do a bit of research on the two types. Mechanical drive turbines have two shafts with expanders. I'm sure you can find good information through Google.

Please see the attachment for the screen shot from the turbine manufacturer Solar Turbine site.  Two shifts turbine may be used either as mechanical drive or as power generation set such as Mars 90, Mars 100 and Titan 250.

thank you Shan and Bobby

As you could see in the page 3 of both Siemens Turbine Brochures, the packages' dimensions and parts list are totally different although both of them are twin-shafts type.
