hi

I am a junior eng and need some help to determine if what i am doing is correct

 

I am checking if a PSV that is already existing on a contactor vessel(natural gas) is sized correctly. I am ckecking the sizing for fire case(wetted and unwetted) water is removed form natural gas.

 

i am checking fired case(wetted) for the water, I am not checking for gylcol since i m assuming this will degarde at high temperature. I am also doing unwetted cals for the natural gas.

 

PLease advice me if i am going in the right direction.

Shelly,

Your approach seems correct. I guess, you are calculating relief load for the existing PSV on the Glycol Contactor. My suggestions are as follows.

i) Yes, Fire Case with Wetted Area (up to 25 ft.) will be the relief scenario.
ii) Please read API 521 for estimating the relief load. Especially while calculating Wetted Area for the Column.
iii) Use latent heat of water as a conservative approach and don't take any credit for Insulation.
iV) Area = Heat Input / Mass heat of vap.
V) with this Area, please verify the adequacy of the existing PSV.
