For a capacity revamp project I need to add a heater treater and coalescer to meet BS&W requirements. Can anybody explain if degassing increases water oil separation efficiency?

Depending on the strength of the emulsion, it breaks if the viscosity is reduced by increasing the temperature, action of demulsifier, and electric  potential. Emulsion strength can vary from crude to crude. Heavy and highly acidic crudes containing  calcium  have stronger emulsions which do not break easily although gases can separate. There can be foaming if temperature is increased
