I have designed a atmospheric storage tank 1000m3(04 nos). clients asking to interconnect the 4 storage tanks, But we have provided common suction header. will this suction header maintain same level in the diesel storage tank?? Suction line is provided with manual valve from individual tanks and no NRV's.

Pls tell me whether additional interconnection is required other than suction header. Basically clients want to maintain the same level in the tank.

Thanks in advance for your reply

Hi,

It will be very difficult to have same flow rate from the 4 tanks. You must have same pressure drop from the tanks to the common header.

Again atmospheric vents for the tanks may not be identical or these in future may clogged differently.this will change the flow rate from the tanks.

What about refilling the tanks during running time? How you are going to fill the tanks equally(same level)?Different liquid height will change the flow rate.

What about maintenance? How you are going to isolate the tanks,if necessary?

Why do you need to draw liquid from the tanks at a time?you can use the tanks as you like by operating the manual valves. When a tank level is decreased, you can refill it to maintain the the same level.

The fill lines are connected to the tank nozzles at above tank liquid level.  They are unable to perform the function of multiple tanks liquid level equalization.  You may consider to install the inter tank connection lines at the bottom of tank with section valves.  If you want to balance the tank liquid level, you may open the valves to equalize tank liquid levels with liquid heads.
