Hi,

I am wondering what the influence is of the feed temperature on the composition of the distillate in a continuous distillation set up.  I've been thinking about it for quite a while and can't seem to figure it out.  Is there a way to keep the distillate composition constant by changing the temperature of the feed?

Thanks for the answers.

DriesWt,

By changing the feed temperature to the column, you are altering the heat input into the column. For keeping the product compositions constant, you will have to undo the heat input changes into the column through the reboiler or condenser or a combination of both.

Use a simulation of the column for easy understanding of the principle.

By changing the feed temperature you will either end up in more heaviers in top or lighters in bottom.

for constant distillate composition you can either change the reboiler/condenser duty or change the feed tray location itself.
