we are doing a project on propylene recovery unit.We are currently trying to make a layout of the plant. We do not know anything about the nominal velocity of the fluids.Hence we are unable to continue our work.

Thumb rule says us to consider the value as 1m/s.But we are not sure if it is applicable to all the process fliuds in our unit.

We also require to know the relative spacing between various equipments like, heat exchanger, condenser drum, condensate pump , reboiler pump etc.

1 m/s would be for liquids.  Gases/vapors are usually about 10X that.  There are rough rules of thumb.

Allow spacing for maintenance.  Removing equipment and replacing it with spares.  You need room for fork lift trucks or small lifts depending on weight and heights of equipment.

for the layout what about relative position of condenser pump  does is  solely  related to NPSH?

is any other rules regarding positioning other than rule of thumb by certain agency like ASME?
