Hello everybody,

I am currently studying chemical engineering and have to design a vacuum distillation column. The process is actually quite simple: a solution of water with hydrogen peroxide enters the vacuum distillation column to produce a 50:50% water and hydrogen peroxide solution. The aim is to remove water from the feed, which leaves from the top .

Does anyone know the procedure for designing such a vacuum distillation column?

Thanks!

Hi, Donna

Well, since its a binary mixture I guess you can use the McCabe-Thiele method with no problems, you just need to get VLE data for water and hydrogen peroxide for the operating column pressure.

Good luck!

Yeah McCabe-thiele method is good for you..Is they making azeotrope?

Thanks, guys. This is what I thought as well but wasn't too sure how to obtain the VLE data. In general though, will the design procedure be the same as for a normal distillation column (since this one is vacuum)?

No, it's not making an azeotrope I think.

The actual VLE data should reflect the operating pressure.
