Hi All,

The root of my question is I've got a canned pump from a contaminated service. To reduce the risk to technicians during dismantling it, we're looking to flush it for a few days first.

My concern is will a flow through the pump casing cause any damage to the stator or other electrical equipment due to rotation of the stator? We're not going to be blasting water through, just using a small air pump or something similar to pump 1-2 m3/hr through.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers.

Give it a try. I once had a project where a pump was installed, not a canned variety, and operated it for extended time with the pump not operating but flowing through the pump. You can monitor the can temperature to see if anything is happening.

A car can go 70 mph all day long, day after day.  Would you push it 5 mph with engine off and transmission in neutral?

I would, with no damage expected whatsoever.

Search for experiences that are similar to the one you question.  It usually works pretty good.

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm more worried about damage to the motor from any induced current, but I'm probably just being paranoid, especially as the power supply will be disconnected.
