We are in the process of replacing the old De-ethaniser column by the new one.

Before doing so we want the column to be completly dry.

My question is, can we dry the column using  Hot N2 , by Pressure purge method to the dew Point of -40 °C ?

Can anyone share the expereince

Thank you

Theoretically yes, for which one would need an indefinite time. In reality, the column and the surrounding cryogenic system (I assume you are talking of a turbo-expander plant) are commonly dried to -5 degC. This applied for several NGL plants where I used to work.

The best thing is to discuss this subject with the engineering/EPC contractor, and to dig out the startup manual of the existing plant. The required dew point must be stated therein.
