Hi everyone,

In Snamprogetti's urea production technology, the level is measured by radiation. Could someone here explain me the reason for that?

Thanks in advance

By radiation, do you mean guided wave radar (GWR) type level measurement?

Hi ,

Consider the resource attached . I've been using this type of technology on Distillation columns .

Reason : Nature of the materials , shape of equipment .

Note : Sometimes difficult to import , safety is a concern ( management of the sources , maintenance work )

Hope this helps

@breizh

Out of curiosity what's their cheapest unit you've used / seen. Just trying to get  an approximate idea of the cost of this technology.

Hi ,

The technology is from Berthold , continuous level monitoring on Distillation columns .The main challenge was to import this technology to China , sorry I cannot support about the cost .

Hi,

Radiation type level measurement is usually applied for a non-contact type level measurement, it gives high accuracy and is not affected by the density/viscosity of the fluid being measures. It is also called as Nucleonic type or Gamma type level measurement.

If possible, could you share in which equipment and what is the process fluid that is being measured by the radiation type level transmitter in your case.

Regards,

Dear Mr. Teknas,

The process fluid in my case is urea solution

Dear,

I don't have much information abut urea solution. But in Fluid catalytic cracking I have seen this type of level gauge in Main column ( Distillation column) main fluid is slurry with temp around 360 C. Other location is in catalyst fine level measurement. Hope this information will help.
