Sorry.. Just want to ask opinion regarding to the relief valve installation.

1. Any different if we put relief valve on the top of the pressure vessel and we put it on the outlet piping of the pressure vessel. I think no different.

2. I have dedicated nozzle on the top of the pressure vessel. Letsay after doing some pressure relief device study, it found that the existing relief valve is inadequate, can I add some more relief valve on the outlet piping on the top of vessel? The set pressure is the same with existing and the motive is just to protect the vessel. The point is, I don't want to modify the existing pressure vessel that might involve local authority if I modify it. Any comment on this?

farid.k,

1- Following link helps you out on the matter:

2- It might be possible, provided that the second PSV to be as close as possible to the pressure vessel and to be set at staggered arrangement respect to the first PSV...

If the vessel contains any internals which may get plugged or stuck in the pressurization path anywhere between the first PSV and the second PSV, the design might fail to achieve its purpose.

I'm not an expert on piping stress but it might be worthwhile to check with the piping engineer if any additional calculations need to be performed with regards to stress if the PSV is located on the piping.

The link provided by Fallah provides excellent guidelines.
