Is it required to calculate inlet and outlet pressure drops when sizing a rupture disc using the "Coefficient of Discharge Method"? To me this seems unnecessary as pressure drop is required for PSVs since larger pressure drops have adverse effect on the relieving of the PSV. The pressure drop should be limited by the short distances required to follow the "8 and 5" rule. Thanks.

I don't understand what you are referring to. I always sized the rupture disk and piping associated with a rupture disk using the K, or resistance, value for the rupture disk.

When a rupture disk bursts, there's no inlet or outlet, just total length of pipe with a ruptured disk (kr) in it.

The disc type requested by my client does not have a Kr value, therefore I cannot size it per the standard resistance coefficient method.

ryn376 ,

Why don't you ask the vendor ? Should not be a problem .

my 2 cents

How does the vendor characterize the frictional losses of your rupture disk?   If it's not in the documentation for your rupture disk, do as Breizh recommends, ask the vendor.
