Hi all,

I'm doing the thermodynamic design of new aircoolers. Sometimes, I encountered a warning in my simulation software (ASPEN EDR) relevant to air cooler plenum depth. In particular, simulation program claims for a deeper plenum chamber  (i.e., smaller plenum chamber dispersion angle).

Proper design of air cooler plenum is fundamental since it affects air pressure drop.

Now, API 661 reports that max plenum chamber dispersion angle shall be 45°.

Note that calculated actual angle is under 45°.

Probably my design doesn't foresee optimum ratio between length and width of the bay.

My questions are the following:

1) Are there any criteria relevant to optimum ratio between length and width of the bay?

2) Did you ever sized an aircooler and encountered such a problem?

Thank you in advance for your help
