dear all,

i want to ask about sizing PSV for Pig Launcher / Receiver. i want to ask about the governing scenario for sizing PSV, commonly it is sized based on fire case scenario as a governing case, do i need to consider blocked discharge case ? why ?

thanks

mosayef,

Depending on the conditions, you might or might not need to consider blocked discharge case for pig launcher. Then please upload a simple sketch of the system along with the relevant info to get the response....

Generally fire case is not aaplicale to Pig Launcher/Receiver as it is extended piece of pipe not equipment . Becase, it is designed as per pipiline code (B31.3 or other code depend on service), Clause 4.4.12.1.1 of API 521, Sixth Edition, Jan-2014 states that fire case is not applicable to piping.

Based on this you can avoid fire case and consider only thermal expansion of fluid due to solar radiation only.
